Why uniformity beats size in carrot production

Why uniformity beats size in carrot production

Root length and diameter get the attention, but uniformity is what determines how much of a carrot crop actually reaches the top grade.

Where uniformity comes from

  • Variety genetics, first and foremost
  • Even seedbed preparation and consistent sowing depth
  • Steady moisture through root development

What to look for on the sheet

Uniformity rating, core size and skin finish tell you more about pack-out than root length does. Strong upright foliage matters too, if the crop will be lifted mechanically.
