A datasheet is the closest thing a grower has to a forecast. It is written months before planting and read minutes before a decision, which is exactly why the wrong line gets weighted too heavily.
Start with the growing system
Open field and greenhouse are different jobs. A determinate plant that performs in the field will not use a long protected season well, and an indeterminate type in the open ground rarely justifies the trellising. Everything else on the sheet is read through this filter.
Then the resistance package
Resistance codes are the shortest route to a shortlist. Match them to the pathogens that actually appear in your region rather than counting how many are listed — six irrelevant codes are worth less than one that answers your real problem.
- HR restricts the pathogen heavily under normal pressure.
- IR restricts it, but symptoms can still appear.
- Neither is immunity, and neither replaces rotation or hygiene.
Read maturity as a constraint
Early, medium and late are not preferences. They are set by your planting window and your rotation, and a variety that misses the window loses whatever it gained elsewhere.
