Tomato brown rugose fruit virus spreads mechanically, survives on surfaces and tools, and is not stopped by the tobamovirus resistance that has protected tomato crops for decades.
Why ToMV resistance is not enough
ToBRFV overcomes the Tm-2² resistance gene that ToMV-resistant varieties rely on. A sheet listing ToMV alone says nothing about ToBRFV, and reading one as covering the other is a common and expensive mistake.
What to do with that
- Check for ToBRFV explicitly, not by inference
- Treat hygiene as primary, resistance as support
- Ask about the resistance level, since intermediate is common
